Obituary for Ronald Eugene Grooms
Ronald Eugene Grooms life’s journey began on September 10, 1937 being born to Mary Grooms and John (Jack) Fassett in Wilmington, Delaware.
His childhood and early adulthood was spent in Berlin, Maryland where he was raised by his great grandmother and aunts. He was educated in the Berlin and Snow Hill, Maryland area school systems. Most of the jobs he held in that area were in the chicken farms industry.
He married Dorothy Ferby and they were blessed with two daughters.
He relocated to the Wilmington area in the 1960’s where he reconnected with several aunts and cousins (Deanie, Jakey, Gwen, Tootsie). He held several part-time and/or limited hour jobs in this area.
His wife, Dorothy predeceased him in 2016.
Ron was a kind, gentle, quiet person who never seemed to get upset; but when he did you knew it. He spent his days at the Wilmington Senior Center where he enjoyed playing and calling bingo, playing cards in the backroom and pestering the females.
In November 1990 he married Gladys Ann Burke and they lived a happy and care free life together until she passed away in November 2012.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Grooms; father, John Fassett; sisters, Clara Grooms, Roketta Poindextter; brother, Jackie V. Fassett; stepmother, M. Novella Fassett.
He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his daughters, Lucrecia Renee Holloman (Donnell), Crystal Moss (Edward); adopted daughter, Paka Marra; sisters, Sylvia Smith, Clara Faulk, Marjorie Saunders (Stanley); six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; devoted niece, Ina Grooms and a host of other nieces and nephews; the staff and members of the Wilmington Senior Center and the residences of 300 Block Kennebec Street.
