Obituary for Theresa L. Duncan
“A Time to Be Born”
Theresa L. Starkey-Duncan was born December 7, 1933 in Chester, PA to the late Reuben and Emma Starkey.
A Time to Work” ~ John 9:4
Theresa was educated in the Chester School District and graduated from Chester High School in 1952. She went on to become an LPN after earning her diploma from Philadelphia Nursing School. She held a few positions in healthcare before gaining employment with Chester Upland School District ESEA Title 1 Program. During her 21 years with the school district, she touched the lives of many youth until her retirement. Her passion for working with children led her back to work at CADES in Swarthmore, PA where she left a stamp on the hearts of more children.
“A Time to Love and Live” ~ Prov. 31:10, 30-31
Theresa enjoyed reading, theater and gospel performances. She was a longtime member of the group “Traveling 9”. Some of her greatest joys arose from her being a social butterfly. Theresa could go anywhere, make a new friend and talk for hours. She had the personality that made her easy to love with her quick wit, uncut advice and looks that spoke for themselves. These traits made her the center of her immediate family’s world as she was the go to for an ear to listen, secret keeper, word of advice or just a good laugh as she caught you up on all the latest news.
“A Time to Celebrate” ~ 1 Corinthians 15:57
While resting at her earthly home, Theresa peacefully transitioned to her eternal home with the Lord on May 5, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Reuben and Emma Starkey, daughter, Adrienne Caulk; brothers, Reuben Starkey and Clarence Starkey; sisters Claudimay Starkey, Joyce Starkey, Doris Spells, Dolores Bell and Bernice Womack.
Theresa leaves to celebrate her life, daughter, Toni Byrd (Gerald); sons, Keith McNear, Michael Duncan, Gary Duncan, Gary Duncan and Tod Duncan; sister, Kathleen Hood (John); Brother, James Starkey (Barbara); 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 12 great great-grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends.
